Understanding the Condition

What it is

Trauma is the lasting effect of a frightening or overwhelming experience, such as an accident, violence, loss, combat or a long period of stress. Post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) can develop when the mind and body stay on high alert long after the danger has passed. It is not a sign of weakness, and it is very treatable.

Recognizing the Signs

Signs you might notice

These are common signs, not a diagnosis. Everyone responds to trauma differently, and support can help whenever you are ready.

Unwanted memories, flashbacks or nightmares

Avoiding people, places or conversations that bring back the experience

Feeling constantly on guard, jumpy or easily startled

Trouble sleeping or concentrating

Feeling numb, detached or cut off from others

Your Care Journey

What to expect during care

Your first visit is a calm conversation with a licensed clinician, about 60 to 90 minutes. You do not have to share details of what happened until you are ready. We begin by building safety and grounding skills to manage strong reactions, and only then work gently through the impact of trauma. You stay in control of the pace throughout.

Common Questions

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to talk about what happened?

Not until you are ready, and only as much as you choose. Treatment starts with feeling safe and building coping skills.

What therapies do you use for trauma?

Evidence based, trauma focused approaches delivered by licensed clinicians. Your clinician explains the options and you decide together.

Can trauma treatment help if I also use alcohol or drugs to cope?

Yes. Many people do, and we treat both together with one team and one plan.

Is trauma treatment covered by insurance?

Many insurance plans cover outpatient therapy and IOP. We work with a growing number of plans, offer self pay options, and check your coverage before you start.
